The second iteration of the Odisha SDG Indicator Framework (OSIF 2.0) was introduced today by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who urged all departments to utilise it wisely in order to meet the UN’s 2030 targets.

He made the declaration, “Together we can; Together we will,” in reference to the SDGs.

The Chief Minister, who joined the programme via a virtual platform, stated that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations are a testament to the fact that sustainable development—integrating the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of development—is the only way to move forward.

He continued by saying that Odisha has been a pioneer in leading initiatives with Sustainable Development at its core.

The CM declared that our commitment to leaving no one behind is amplified by our 5T ideals. As a result, it becomes crucial that we track our development in exact and difficult methods. This is what the Odisha SDG Indicator Framework (OSIF 2.0) seeks to accomplish. The indicators created with input from all the SDG implementation Departments will assist us in evaluating and researching the best ways to close gaps and meet our objectives.

He added that Odisha has improved its resilience and capacity for adaptation in coping with natural disasters over time and is now renowned for its “zero casualty” approach to disaster management. Similar to this, the State launched the Odisha Millets Mission to empower small and marginal farmers while launching the drive to diversify the food options to better meet the nutritional needs of the population. According to him, the Odisha Millets Mission is now recognised on a global scale for its agro-ecological approach.

Odisha has long embraced the idea of sustainable development in all the programmes and projects being executed by the Government of Odisha, he claimed, because it is a coastal state on the frontlines facing the dangers of climate change. Our developmental model is still based on the principles of equity, inclusivity, and sustainability as we continue to grow rapidly, he continued.

In his welcome speech, Development Commissioner PK Jena noted that the UN SDG Agenda includes 17 objectives that must be accomplished by 2030. Based on administrative data, the state government identified 293 indicators in this framework. According to him, these metrics will make it easier for departments to match their plans with the SDGs. The motion for thanks was made by Smt. Chithra Arumugam, Special Secretary for Planning and Convergence.
