For centuries, Lord Jagannath Temple has owned extensive land across Odisha and in several other states through donations made by kings, devotees, and benefactors. Over time, parts of these lands have reportedly become encroached upon, improperly transferred, or remain inadequately documented.
The Odisha Government has now initiated a systematic exercise to:
- Digitally verify temple land records.
- Identify encroachments.
- Recover illegally occupied properties wherever legally permissible.
- Strengthen land administration through modern record management.
- Protect temple assets for the benefit of the institution and its devotees.

Since assuming office, the Mohan Charan Majhi Government has placed renewed emphasis on preserving Odisha’s spiritual and cultural heritage while improving governance around major religious institutions.

During Rath Yatra 2026 and Bahuda Yatra 2026, he closely coordinated with the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), district administration, police, health authorities, and other departments to oversee arrangements for lakhs of devotees.
