In the current fiscal year, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), a division of Coal India Ltd, plans to produce about 190 million tonnes of dry fuel.

Sources claim that this will represent a 13.09 percent increase over the 168 million tonnes of production that the Mini Ratna firm reported in 2021–22.

MCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director O P Singh stated that while the company is 21% ahead of objective and anticipates reaching 190 million tonnes by the end of this fiscal year, the output target for 2022–23 was 176 million tonnes.

He added that MCL has set a goal of 190 million tonnes for coal dispatch for the years 2022–2033.

For the upcoming fiscal year, the business has maintained its coal dispatch expectation of 200 million tonnes. Eighty percent of this is anticipated to go to the power sector.

Singh was reported by IANS as adding that the government’s efforts to promote commercial coal mining would increase MCL’s supplies.

On 11 first-mile connectivity projects, the business has invested Rs 3,922 crore. Eight of these projects are now being built, two have been commissioned, and one has not yet been granted. Direct delivery of coal to consumers is referred to as first-mile connectivity.

MCL now operates 18 mines, 15 of which are open-cast and three underground.

In Odisha, there are 85 billion tonnes of coal reserves, of which 37 billion tonnes belong to MCL.
