Two students died and eight others were feared drowned when a boat capsized in Godavari river of Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district on Saturday.
There were more than 30 people on the boat which sank in the Gautami river after collision with a bridge pillar,a news agency reported. A search operation is underway.
Most of the passengers were students, state Disaster Management Department sources said.
Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed district officials to step up rescue operations, sources said.
The Gautami river is a tributary of the Godavari.
