On Thursday, the state election commissioner (SEC) issued a formal notification for the panchayat elections in Odisha.
The filing of nominations for Sarpanchs, Samiti members, and ZP members will begin on January 17 and end on January 21.
Candidates have until January 25 to withdraw their nominations, after which the final list of candidates will be released.
On March 23 and 25, the Panchayat Samiti vice-chairperson and Zilla Parishad vice-president will be elected. The Commission’s model code of conduct will be in effect throughout the state from today until February 28.
The Panchayat elections will be place in five phases on February 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24, using the Covid-19 protocol. On February 26, 27, and 28, votes will be counted and results will be announced at the Block level.
Over 2.79 crore voters will have the opportunity to elect 91,913 ward members, 6,794 Sarpanches, 6,793 Panchayat Samiti members, and 853 members of the Zilla Parishad.
