Prashant Jagdev, a suspended Chilika MLA who allegedly rammed his SUV into a big crowd injuring several persons, has been granted bail by the Supreme Court.
The highest court issued restrictions, stating that Jagdev cannot visit his assembly district for a year. Only with the Collector’s consent is he permitted to visit.
Prashant Jagdev was also prohibited from holding meetings with more than five people at once by the SC.
Notably, on March 12, Jagdev had to halt because of a large crowd in front of the Block office while he was travelling towards Banpur Block for the Block chairperson election. Jagdev is accused of driving into the crowd rather than slowing down the car. In the incident, at least 22 persons suffered injuries.
The angry crowd then attacked the Bahubali MLA and damaged the car. Jagdev, who had suffered serious injuries, was initially taken to the hospital in Banpur before being transferred to a private facility in Bhubaneswar. After being released from the hospital on March 22, he was detained.
Jagdev is accused of major offences such trying to kill someone, impeding police officers from doing their jobs, endangering the public, and using an automobile as a weapon to harm others.
