In a monumental stride towards sustainable energy, Odisha is set to become a frontrunner in India’s renewable landscape, courtesy of innovative floating solar parks. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, RK Singh, unveiled a visionary plan that positions Odisha as a burgeoning solar power hub, marking a paradigm shift in the state’s energy trajectory.

Despite current challenges, including limited installed capacity for renewables and land scarcity for conventional projects, the Odisha government, under Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik’s leadership, is embracing transformative solutions. The introduction of floating solar parks is poised to revolutionize Odisha’s energy dynamics, showcasing the state’s commitment to overcoming obstacles and driving progress.

According to the latest data, Odisha is on track to secure a spot among the top 10 states in India with the highest solar park capacities. Minister RK Singh revealed that the state’s three proposed solar parks, including two floating solar parks with a cumulative capacity of 340 MW, signify a substantial leap forward.

In this journey, the Odisha government’s proactive stance aligns with the broader national agenda of sustainable and green energy solutions. While acknowledging current challenges, the focus remains on finding innovative solutions, emphasizing the strategic use of government waste/non-agricultural land for solar projects.

The PM-KUSUM scheme, actively promoted by the government, encourages farmers in Odisha to set up solar panels on barren land, showcasing a holistic approach to renewable energy initiatives. This visionary strategy not only addresses energy needs but also empowers local communities and farmers.

This transformative journey signifies Odisha’s ascendancy to the forefront of India’s solar power landscape, driven by the innovation of floating solar initiatives. Beyond overcoming land constraints, Odisha, under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik, is strategically positioning itself as a key contributor to the nation’s renewable energy portfolio. As India continues its commitment to sustainable and green energy solutions, Odisha stands ready to play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s renewable future.
