Official sources said that anti-corruption sleuths apprehended a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) rank officer on a graft charge in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Tuesday.

According to an official release, Abhinav Dalua, DSP in-charge of Sadar Police Station in Dhenkanal district, was caught red-handed demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a coal transporter to facilitate his transportation business.

The bribe amount of Rs 30,000 was seized from Dalua, according to the vigilance, who added that he was apprehended based on specific information. Simultaneous searches are being conducted in eight locations throughout Dalua in order to investigate a possible disproportionate asset case against him.

Dalua has been charged, and an investigation is underway.

According to the vigilance, Dalua had previously threatened the coal transporter with not allowing his vehicles if a bribe was not paid.

On August 24, the transporter paid Rs 15,000, but the DSP demanded more. So the transporter approached Vigilance, and a trap was set, and he was apprehended while taking another Rs 30000, the vigilance said in a statement, adding that eight teams, including one Additional SP, nine DSPs, eight Inspectors, and other staff, were engaged in the search operation.
