The Yuva Morcha protest organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party in Bhubaneswar over the murder of former minister Naba Kisore Das descended into violence on Tuesday when some demonstrators attempted to scale a police barricade in order to gain access to the state assembly, which was in session at the time.

Although some protesters threw eggs and water at the police, others used lathi charges.

They were demonstrating against the chief minister Naveen Patnaik over the “deteriorating” status of law and order. On January 29, a police officer opened fire at Naba Kishore Das at Brajarajnagar in the Jharsuguda district. The next day, in a hospital in Bhubaneswar, he passed away from his wounds.

Hundreds of BJP Yuva Morcha followers marched towards the Odisha Legislature to hold a massive rally in protest of the alleged lawlessness in the state, led by Irasis Acharya, president of the Odisha BJP Youth Wing.
A few police officers and some BJP employees were hurt during the altercation.

In an interview with the Media, BJP Yuva Morcha National General Secretary Rohit Chahal claimed that the state’s peace and order had “completely deteriorated.”

“The state’s law and order situation has drastically deteriorated. People in Odisha are tired of the anarchy. We want to know why the CM is keeping quiet about the murder of Naba Das. Why isn’t a full inquiry of the situation being conducted? We won’t remain motionless, “said he.

He continued to criticise Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, saying, “We want to ask the CM, who is running the government because the assembly is in session here and he is in Mumbai.”
