Bhubaneswar,Jan.05 : The number of winged guests at Chilika Lake, the largest brackish water lagoon in Asia, has increased this year.
As per the census that concluded yesterday, the lake has recorded total 10, 47,968 birds of 181 species this year as against 8, 93,390 registered last year.
“10,21,563 birds of 105 waterfowl species and 26,405 water dependent birds of 76 species have been sighted in Chilika this year,” said an official.
Similarly, the Nalabana sanctuary of Chilika has also registered an increase in the bird count this year. Total of 3, 93,541 birds were spotted in the sanctuary this year as against last year’s count of 3, 20,826 birds.
