After allegedly assaulting a tribal youngster in Odisha, a police officer filed a case against himself at the police station where he is currently assigned. Senior Inspector Rakesh Samal of the Balipatna police station in Odisha has also been named in the case along with Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Krupsindhu Barad.
The incident was brought to light after a woman complained to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Bhubaneswar that two officers had assaulted and injured her husband Saroj Bhoi inside the Balipatna police station and demanded action.
The Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 341, 323, 325, 294, 506, and 34 were invoked in response to the complaint, as were Sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(s) of the SC & ST Act, and the DCP instructed the authorities to file a case in accordance with these provisions.
The event will now be looked into by the local assistant commissioner of police (ACP).
“I was unjustly detained by the police and jailed. I was beaten up inside the police station by IIC Rasindhu Barad, SI Rakesh Samal, and 5 or 6 other police officers. I have a broken leg. “I want justice,” claimed Bhoi.
President of the Dalit Mahasangh Litu Das requested that the police officers be taken into custody right away. “It is a serious situation. We demand that the IIC Krupsindhu Barad and SI Rakesh Samal be subject to stern legal action. Both should be detained shortly, he predicted.
The claimed incident allegedly occurred on October 3, 2022, during a fight between Bhoi and several of the young people from his community. Police afterwards brought Bhoi to the police station.
A senior advocate, said: “An ACP or DSP level officer should look into this issue. In the sake of transparency and a thorough investigation, the involved police should be moved from that location. The possibility of their arrest exists.
