In a significant leap forward, Odisha is set to witness the commencement of commercial production at the Sapigen Biologix vaccine plant by May this year. Positioned as the first vaccine manufacturing facility in the state, this groundbreaking plant, located at the Biotech Park in Andharua, boasts a remarkable production capacity of 2.4 crore doses of various vaccines per day.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) declared that at full capacity, this facility will emerge as the largest vaccine-producing plant in the country, making it a pivotal player in the nation’s healthcare landscape. Expected to produce over 15 vaccines targeting various diseases, including cholera and malaria, the Rs 1,500-crore vaccine plant is not only a monumental stride in healthcare but also a significant economic contributor.
The CMO emphasized the plant’s role in generating direct employment for 1,500 individuals, with a focus on recruiting locally. V K Pandian, Chairman of ‘5T’ – a transformative initiative driven by technology – visited the sub-units of the vaccine plant on Sunday, engaging with management and employees.
