The same Kotia area has been chosen by both Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to build a hydropower facility.
As representatives from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh clashed once more over the construction of a hydropower plant on Monday, it appears that the Kotia conflict will never be resolved. Border disputes between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have already occurred.
A source claims that Odisha has offered to build a 2200 MW hydroelectric plant in the same location as Andhra Pradesh is considering a project of a similar size. Andhra Pradesh has already surveyed the designated location and requested environmental approval.
On the other side, a delegation on Monday that included representatives from the local government, the Adani group, who would be building the project, and the Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) visited Neradivalsa, Tadivalsa, and Arjuvalsa. To determine the number of villages, individuals, and other affects, the team conducted a survey.
Salur CI arrived at Neradivalsa while the crew was there and inquired about the reason for their visit. He further informed them that since the survey work had already been completed, the project will be set up by the government of Andhra Pradesh.
The team saw the Collector later in the evening and spoke with him about the suggested plant.
While the local administration has not yet provided any response regarding the occurrence, speculation is growing as to which state, Odisha or Andra Pradhesh, will establish the plant.
