The normal Indian diet is not heart-healthy because it is high in dairy fats like ghee and milk fats and low in fruits and vegetables. Even though more than 50% of our population is vegetarian, heart disease is more common than it is in the Western population, which is primarily non-vegetarian. In our society, it is standard practise to reuse cooking oil, which raises the level of trans fatty acids. The typical Indian diet consists of a light breakfast and a substantial dinner, which causes inappropriate or poor digestion and increases the risk of developing diabetes mellitus and weight gain.
