Draupadi Murmu, a longtime politician from Odisha and a former governor of Jharkhand, has been elected as India’s fifteenth president.
Murmu, 64, is the second woman to hold the position after Pratibha Patil and the first tribal president. On July 24, the current president Ram Nath Kovind’s term is set to expire. On July 25, 2022, Draupadi Murmu is scheduled to take the oath of office as president of India.
According to PC Mody, Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha, Murmu received 540 votes worth 3,78,000 at the first round of voting, whereas Yashwant Sinha received 208 votes for 1,45,600.
Out of a total of 1,138 votes, Draupadi Murmu received 809 after the second round of voting. Yashwant Sinha received 329 ballots. Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Mody remarked that “The first 10 states’ ballot paper was counted alphabetically. There were 1138 total valid votes, totaling 1,49,575. Draupadi Murmu received 809 of these votes, worth 1,05,299, while Yashwant Sinha received 329 of them, worth 44,276.”
After the third round of vote tallying, Murmu came closer to winning. Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, and Punjab were among the States covered in the third phase. There were 1,333 total valid votes cast in this round. There were 1,65,664 valid votes cast in total. Draupadi Murmu received 812 of those votes, while Yashwant Sinha received 521.
After round three, there were 3219 valid votes cast, totaling $8,38,839; Draupadi Murmu received 2161 of those votes, worth $5,77,777. Yashwant Sinha received 1058 of the 2,61,062 total votes.
Earlier, on July 18, voting took place at the Parliament Building and in every State Assembly. 99 percent of the 4,796 MPs and MLAs cast ballots in the presidential election, according to official sources.

Celebrations broke out everywhere, including at Draupadi Murmu’s home in Rairangpur, Odisha, as soon as she gained a significant lead following the round 1 vote tallying. After the results were announced, more than 10,000 laddus were ready to be given out to the people.
In Bhubaneswar, there were also celebrations after Draupadi Murmu of the NDA gained a significant lead in the presidential race.
