Jakarta, October 12: Para athlete from Odisha, Jayanti Behera clinched the silver medal in the 400-metre sprint event in Asian Para Games 2018, held in Jakarta in Indonesia. Behera bagged the spot by clocking a timing of 59.71 seconds.

China’s Li Lu bagged the gold with a timing of 58.39 seconds while Shigemoto Sae of Japan clocked 59.74 seconds to win the bronze medal in 400 mt sprint.

This was the second medal for Behera at Para Asiad 2018. She clinched the bronze medal in the 200 mt sprint event at the Para Asiad. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also announced Rs 10 lakh cash prize for the para-athlete.

Behera won a silver medal in 100-metre race at the Asian Youth Para Games-2017 in Dubai. In the same year, she had clinched gold for India in 400 mt events at the World Junior Para Athletic Championships held in Switzerland in August. She had also won a gold medal at the China Open Para Athletic Grand Prix Championship in May 2018.
