Mumbai: Akshay Kumar-Mouni Roy starrer ‘Gold’ has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office, two weeks after its release. Sharing the news on Twitter, trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh wrote- “#Gold crosses ₹ 100 cr mark on Day 13… [Week 2] Fri 1.85 cr, Sat 3.10 cr, Sun 4.75 cr, Mon 1.45 cr. Total: ₹ 100.45 cr. India biz… Akshay Kumar’s ninth film in ₹ 100 cr Club.”
‘Gold’ is based on the life of a sportsman named Tapan Das, who was a part of the Hockey team that won an Olympic medal for India for the first time, at the Games of the XIV Olympiad, London in 1948. Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, the movie is directed by Reema Kagti of ‘Talaash’ fame and marks the Bollywood debut of TV actress Mouni Roy.
The movie was released on Independence Day. It witnessed a good start at the box office but faced tough competition from John Abraham’s Satyamev Jayate, which had also released on the same day.
Notably, Gold is Akshay Kumar’s second release in 2018. He was earlier seen in Padman which released on February 9 and recorded a lifetime collection of Rs 81.82 crore at the box office.
