Dhenkanal: Launching a crackdown on illegal cattle traffickers, police detained at least 4 cow-laden trucks near Gondia Square under Gondia Police Station area in the district on Sunday and rescued around 300 cows from those.
As per the report, some locals chased and intercepted the trucks following a tip-off in the morning and called up Gondia Police.
After police reached the spot and carried out a search inside the vehicles it came to notice that it was carrying around 300 cows under inhumane conditions. Cops immediately seized the cattle and send them for necessary treatment. However the drivers of all the seized trucks managed to give police a slip during the raid.
While it is suspected that the cattle were being sent to neighbouring states without required documents, locals have claimed that the illegal cattle transport through Gondia has registered an increase in past few months. They have demanded stringent action against the racketeers who are behind such transports.
Meanwhile police have started investigation into the case.
