Bhubaneswar, November 24: The winter session of the Odisha Assembly continued for five working days as Speaker Pradip Amat adjourned the proceedings for an indefinite time.
The session that began on November 16 was scheduled to continue till December 15. However, it was adjourned sine die, 18 working days before the scheduled closure.
Government chief whip Amar Prasad Satpathy moved a motion for early closure of the winter session as there was no pending official business to transact. The Speaker accepted the motion.
During the period, the House had passed a resolution for 33% reservation for women in assemblies and Parliament. Besides, it passed a motion for forgiving defence analyst Abhijit Ayer Mitra for his derogatory remarks against the lawmakers.
The ruling party and opposition Congress raised several issues including tree-felling for a beer factory, farmers’ plight, utilisation of the Tribal Development Fund and slashing of the post-Matric scholarship fund for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) students by the Centre.
