A CISF Head Constable from Odisha is accused of shooting dead his state colleague today at the Indian Museum in Kolkata, a shocking act that has rocked the city.

Accused Akshay Kumar Mishra, a native of the Dhenkanal area, was recently denied leave to attend his father’s burial as a result of which, according to sources, he became psychologically disturbed.

He uttered “Galti Ho Gayi” after being apprehended by cops (I made a mistake).

After more than an hour-long operation, a joint team of Kolkata Police commandos and the paramilitary force neutralised Mishra, who opened indiscriminate fire with his AK-47 rifle this evening, killing Assistant Sub Inspector Ranjit Sarangi and injuring Assistant Commandant rank officer Subir Ghosh, police said.

Vineet Goyel, the city police commissioner, personally oversaw the operation and hurried to the scene of the crime at the Indian Museum on bustling Park Street while wearing a bulletproof jacket and metal headgear.

Upon hearing the news, CISF personnel and troopers surrounded the Museum area with a cordon while Kolkata Police commandos utilised speakers to demand the trooper’s surrender.

According to a city police source, the joint team found Jawan’s hiding place in the museum district first. The entire block’s electrical connections were then severed. Following the murderous jawan’s forced appearance in the open due to the use of tear gas by a Kolkata Police commando, the combat force commandos easily neutralised him and captured him.

In a statement to the media, the police commissioner claimed that the murderer jawan had been apprehended without any additional casualties. There were at least 15 bullets fired. We are looking at the circumstances behind his use of indiscriminate shooting. “At first glance, it appears that he was experiencing mental depression,” he stated.

According to a senior city police official, it was lucky that the shooting took place after the Indian Museum’s visitor gates had closed and many employees had already left. He claimed that there would have been many more casualties in the absence of this.

This is the second instance in the past three months of a security guard shooting someone on the street in Kolkata.

One woman was killed on June 10 when a Kolkata Police constable who was assigned to guard the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission at bustling Park Circus opened fire with his Insas rifle before shooting himself.
