Shri VK Pandian, the Chairman of 5T and Nabin Odisha, emerged as a prominent figure in the state’s environmental conservation efforts as he directed officials to maintain the pollution-free status of the Daya River. In a high-level meeting, Pandian instructed the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take immediate action to preserve the river’s cleanliness.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the pollution in the Daya River primarily stems from the flow of wastewater from the capital city through the Gangua nullah. To address this issue, it was decided that a state-of-the-art treatment plant, employing advanced technology, would be constructed at the confluence of the Daya and Gangua rivers. This initiative, led by WATCO, aims to purify the river water and mitigate the impact of waste disposal and untreated water release into stormwater channels, which significantly contribute to the pollution of Gangua nullah and, subsequently, the Daya River.
Shri VK Pandian urged the cooperation of various agencies, including the Urban Development Department, BMC, WATCO, and OSPCB, in executing effective measures. The meeting also outlined the mandatory connection of contaminated water from various institutions in the BMC area to the sewerage line. Pandian stressed the importance of creating awareness to facilitate the swift connection of all houses in the BMC area to the sewerage line.
Highlighting the ongoing sewerage work in different areas by WATCO, Pandian emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among various agencies to ensure minimal inconvenience to the public. He urged these agencies to expedite sewerage work and adhere to the stipulated timelines.
In addition, Shri VK Pandian instructed the Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCO), OSPCB, and BMC to conduct regular inspections of different industries in the state capital. This proactive approach aims to ensure proper waste and water treatment, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment in the region. Shri VK Pandian’s leadership underscores his commitment to environmental conservation and underscores his pivotal role as a champion for a pollution-free Daya River.
