MUMBAI,November 18: Veteran actor, theatre personality and advertising guru Alyque Padamsee died here on Saturday morning, family sources said. He was 90.
He is survived by three former wives and four children besides other re latives.
Among other achievements, Padamsee is best remembered for his role of Mohammed Ali Jinnah in Richard Attenborough’s multi-Oscar award winner classic, ‘Gandhi’ (1982).
A renowned personality in English theatre productions, he produced notable plays .
Alyque Padamsee is one of the finest performers the theater industry has ever seen. Apart from his sheer brilliance on stage, storyteller was a mastermind behind some of the finest ad films ever made. As per a report in TOI, “the ad man was the brain behind several iconic advertisement campaigns such as Lalitaju for Surf, Cherry Charlie for Cherry Blossom Show Polish, the MRF Muscle Man, the Liril girl in the waterfall, the Kamasutra couple, Hamara Bajaj, the TV detective Karamchand, the Fair & Handsome brand, etc.”
