Under Tranche V of the commercial coal block auction held by the Ministry of Coal, Vedanta has been named the top bidder for Ghogharpalli and its Dip Extension coal block, located in Sundargarh district, Odisha.
The coal block’s logistical position and yearly capacity make it the ideal choice for the company’s Jharsuguda smelter.
The mine’s projected annual capacity is 20 million tonnes, while its total reserves are 1,288 million tonnes. Once operational, it will guarantee a steady supply of fuel, increase access to electricity, and improve the company’s aluminium production processes.
