Vedanta Ltd announced on Wednesday that it has been named the preferred bidder for a bauxite block in Odisha. The Sijimali bauxite block is located in the Odisha districts of Rayagada and Kalahandi.
“Vedanta Ltd has been declared as the preferred bidder for the Sijimali bauxite block… in the mineral block auction conducted by the government of Odisha,” the company said in a BSE filing.
The mine is a strategic fit for Vedanta because of its size, location, and bauxite quality, according to the company, which added that the block has 311 million tonnes of bauxite reserves.
Vedanta Ltd, a subsidiary of Vedanta Resources Ltd, is a diversified global natural resources company with significant operations in India, South Africa, and Namibia in oil and gas, zinc, lead, silver, copper, iron ore, steel, and aluminium, and power.
