Accident involving the Coromandel Express: The disaster, one of the deadliest in modern Indian history, featured a goods train, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the accident site and the survivors of the train tragedy in Odisha that claimed the lives of 288 people. More than 800 people were injured when a passenger train hit the derailed coaches of another train Friday evening. “I don’t have words to express my sorrow. The government will do everything to help those injured. If anyone is found responsible for the accident, they will be severely punished,” he said.

The Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, and a cargo train were all involved in the collision, one of the bloodiest in modern Indian history.

Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister, has proclaimed a day of national mourning in response to the horrible train accident.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister of railways, has declared that those who perished in the disaster will receive compensation of Rs. 10 lakh, Rs. 2 lakh, and Rs. 50,000, respectively.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his sadness over the catastrophe and said that the PM’s National Relief Fund would provide compensation of 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and 50,000 for the injured (PMNRF).
