- Will bury victim, nothing left to burn: Brother
The father of the Unnao rape victim says she received constant threats from one of the two men accused of raping her, but the police took no action.
The young woman, 23, has died of injuries she suffered this week when five men — including the two she said raped her last year — set her ablaze when she was on her way to court.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has now promised that a fast-track court will hear the case.
Her father told India Today TV that Shivam Trivedi, one of the rape accused, made constant threats to his daughter and his family (including him personally) after getting bail in November.
He said no senior BJP leaders or government officials had come to meet the family. (A sub-divisional magistrate later came to meet them.)
The accused should either be killed like the young men in the Hyderabad gang rape case, or hanged, he said.
Four men accused of raping and killing a young veterinarian near Hyderabad last week were shot dead in what the police said was an encounter — a move that got a lot of public support but did not go uncriticised.
‘NOTHING LEFT TO BURN’
The victim’s brother said the family would bury her as there was nothing left to burn.
The Unnao rape victim had suffered more than 90 per cent burns after the attack on Thursday; she was airlifted to Delhi for treatment.
She died at Safdarjung Hospital on Friday night.
Her brother said it didn’t matter if the culprits died in an encounter or were hanged.
They shouldn’t be alive, he said.
