Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha, ordered that for the upcoming year, recipients of the State Food Security Scheme (SFSS) will receive five kilogrammes of rice free of charge each month. The beneficiaries of the SFSS would receive 5 kilogrammes of rice at no cost from January 2023 through December 2023, according to a decision made by the state administration. The proposal will cost 185 crore rupees in total.
Under the State Food Security Scheme, the government of Odisha would offer free rice for a year Important points:
- Since 2018, the left-out eligible recipients of the SFSS have received 5 kg of rice per person per month at a cost of Rs 1 per kg from the state government.
- The persons who have enrolled for the SFSS will receive 5kg of rice free of charge, according to the state administration.
- Over the course of the last 28 months, as the COVID-19 pandemic scenario in the state has persisted, the beneficiaries have received additional rice and pulses.
- Under the National Food Security Act and the State Food Security Scheme (SFSS), each family received a Rs. 1000 cash incentive twice.
About the State Food Security Scheme:
Under the 2013 National Food Security Act, the State Food Security Scheme was established. The government of Odisha offers rice via this programme at a significantly reduced price. The State Food Security Scheme of the Odisha Government will cost Rs. 442 crore annually. This SFSS Scheme’s primary goal is to offer meals at reduced costs to low-income families.
25 lakh people are covered under the State Food Security Yojana, and the government would pay an additional Rs 221 crore from October 2018 to March 2019.
