Reportedly, the two jumbos, Mahendra and Rajkumar, are being brought from Similipal to Satkosia for the purpose.

Though a dispute ensued between the locals of Similipal and forest department over the use of the elephants, the issue was resolved after the forest officials held talks with the locals.

Meanwhile, PCCF (Wildlife) Sandip Tripathy, informed the media that no decision has yet been taken regarding the release of the Royal Bengal Tigress Sundari from the enclosure.

The two trained elephants will be deployed for general security, Tripathy further clarified.

Notably, Tigress Sundari was tranquilised on November 6, last year after it allegedly killed two persons and a bullock in separate incidents in Baghamunda and Tainsi villages inside the STR in October 2018.

Royal Bengal Tigress Sundari was brought from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in June 2018 as part of the tiger translocation project and released into the Satkosia Tiger Reserve in August.
