New Delhi,December 17: A fresh bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on Monday to make triple talaq a penal offence.
Reports said under the proposed law, the practice of handing down instant triple talaq will be illegal and void.
This will attract a jail term of three years for the husband.
The reports further said the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018 would supercede an earlier Bill passed in the Lok Sabha.
The government had cleared some amendments including the introduction of provision of bail to make it more palatable, reports added.
