Khurda,Dec 19: Tension prevailed in Jatni on Wednesday after women blocked the Jatni-Talakheta road over the death of a youth in a road accident yesterday.
The agitating women blocked the road by placing the body of a youth, bringing the vehicular movements on the route to a standstill. They demanded an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the kin of the deceased.
According to sources, Jagannath Baral of Govindpur village was killed in a road mishap near Talakheta Square yesterday afternoon.
During the protest, the irate women vandalised and torched a nearby liquor shop. They blamed the presence of the liquor shop in the area for rising accidents.
On being informed, police reached the spot and controlled the mob.
