The commissionerate police in this country are going to work with Meta, the parent corporation of social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, in order to stop the rising number of suicide cases in the capital city, taking a cue from the Uttar Pradesh police.
An alarm would be issued to the local authorities from the Meta headquarters in California via phone or email if anyone posted anything about suicide on these social media platforms or livestreamed taking the extreme step. These notifications are currently sent to the Uttar Pradesh police as per their arrangement with Meta.

According to figures from the commissionerate police, there were 417 suicide deaths overall in the capital city in 2022, a startling 48% increase over the 282 suicide cases that were documented in 2021.
“We intend to create a special division to look into suicide situations. It can be helpful to take targeted interventions to stop such tragedies from happening if a proper investigation and the conditions leading to suicides are conducted. Huge awareness campaigns and training for police officers handling suicide cases are planned, according to assistant police commissioner Uma Shankar Dash.
Soumitra Pathare, a psychiatrist with a practise in Pune, contends that the police and government should thoroughly analyse the statistics on suicide victims, including their age group, marital status, and whether they were employed or not.
According to a data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Odisha had the highest percentage of suicides caused by family issues nationwide in 2021. The NCRB report said that a total of 4,033 suicides (3,257 women) were documented as a result of family issues.
