Bhubaneswar: IMD Regional Centre here issued thunderstorm, lightning and rain alert for at least 16 districts Odisha till 11.30 PM today as the heavy rain continued lashing several parts of the district starting from the morning today under the impact of a low pressure formed over North-West Bay of Bengal.
As per the latest Newcast released by the centre, places like Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Cuttack, Khordha including Bhubaneswar, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Balangir, Nuapada and Mayurbhanj.
People have told not to venture out of their homes and advised to take shelter in safe places to avoid any kind of eventuality.
“The low pressure will trigger rainfall in northern and coastal Odisha and extend to around 75 percent areas in the state till August 28. Heavy to very heavy rainfall alert have been issued for districts like Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Jharsuguda Bargarh and Keonjhar. Heavy rainfall is expected in districts like, Puri, Ganjam, Khordha, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sonepur and Sundergarh,” said Laxmikant Giri, Meteorologist said yesterday.
