On Thursday, the Centre approved the Odisha government’s plea to extend Suresh Mahapatra’s tenure as Chief Secretary for another six months.

The State Government had written to the Ministry of Personnel on December 31, 2021, requesting a six-month extension of Mahapatra’s tenure beyond his customary retirement date of February 28, 2022.

Mahapatra, a 1986-batch IAS official, will retire from the government service on August 31, 2022, with the acceptance of the prolongation.
