The Odisha Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was approved by the Assembly on Monday by voice vote, enabling the BJD-led state administration to make necessary amendments to the Original Act.
The amendment states that the Lokayukta has the same authority to issue a contempt notice to anyone as the Supreme Court and High Court.
To ensure that compliance reports are handled promptly, government employees must abide by the Lokayukta’s notices and instructions.
On the suggestion of the first, if the officers fail to comply, it will be considered misbehaviour and subject the officer in question to departmental investigation and disciplinary action.
The Chief Minister will lead the Lokayukta, according to the proposed legislation. The action was opposed by senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra, but the house nonetheless approved the bill.
The Odisha Assembly’s Monsoon Session was adjourned sine die three days early due to a commotion caused by opposition members during the House’s consideration of chit funds and farmers’ grievances.
The meeting was supposed to go until August 4th.
The five proposed revisions to the statute were accepted earlier on July 19 by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The IT policy was one of 17 suggestions that the Odisha government adopted.
According to the proposal, a capital subsidy of up to Rs 20 crore will be given for 25% of fixed capital investments.
Additionally, up to Rs 25 lakhs of 15% of the cost of establishing a solar power plant will be repaid. It would be possible for Greenfield IT Parks to receive a full refund of any stamp duty, registration fees, or conversion fees.
