In order to provide Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) patients with financial support, the state government has approved a one-time financial assistance of Rs 10 lakhs to each discharged patient in order to meet the requirements for an electric wheelchair, appropriate physiotherapy, genetic testing, and treatments in higher super speciality institutions.
An announcement to this effect has been made by the Department of Health and Family Welfare in Odisha.
The message provided instructions on how to distribute the cash aid.
It said that the sufferers’ families will advocate for financial aid before the relevant district Collector. The Chief District Medical and Public Health Officer in question would verify the claim.
The aid of Rs 10 lakhs from the Chief Minister’s relief fund (CMRF), which would be credited to the bank accounts of the living patients, would be authorised by the Collector of the relevant district after the proper procedure.
