With the advancement of science and technology , photography has virtually became a child’s play as now anybody can shoot with his android mobile and upload it for publication without much hardship. Therefore many serious photographers claim that photography is no more alive.
If we look back towards the first lady photographer of India we would find that Homaji Viyarawalla was the first lady behind the lines who had achieved the highest recognisation . She was awarded with Pada Vibhusanm the second highest civilian award of the country. She was the first lady who was absolutely at ease in the male-dominated bastion.
While looking back to Odisha, one will find Swati Mohapatra a smart young lady with M.B.A. degree to her credit and an entrepreneur by profession to be the first lady photographer of Odisha.
Swati is the daughter of State’s well known educationist Prof. Nilima Mishra and late Somanath Mohapatra. Her husband Gourishankar Mishra happens to be an young entrepreneur who extends all cooperation and inspiration to her.
Though earlier people of Odisha were not aware about the photographic talents of Swati, her recent solo exhibition has virtually made many spell bound to see her snaps of landscape and wildlife exhibited at the Lalit Kala Academy, Bhubaneswar, from 18th to 23rd January 2020.
A total number of 45 photographs were exhibited in Swati’s solo show out of which 7 photographs were on wild life mostly migratory birds of Chilika at Mangalajodi sanctuary . The colour landscape photograph were scenic beauties of Himalayas, Ladakh, Himanchal Pradesh, Nepal, Shikim, Meghalaya and Kashmir valley. Which were click by Swati during visit to those areas. Swati had also included some of photograph shot in Thailand and midlist country. All the photographs were taken by Canon DSLR camera and were enlarged up to 20inch x 30inch size. The photographs were neatly mounted and uniformly displayed.
Swati’s Exhibition Was Inaugurated By Senior Parliament Member Pinaki Mishra And Were Reviewed By former Diplomat Abasar Beuria, Photographer Raj Sarkar, Minister Of Higher Education Samir Das And Deepak Samantaray former Director All India Redio Cuttack.
A large number of visitors from different goes of life visited the show of State’s only woman photographer and appreciated her work. Among the prominent personalities who visited included eminent artist, historian, poet and administrator Jagannath Prasad Das, famous actor and director Ananta Mohapatra , well known singer and music director Pranab Patnaik, former chairman of State Social Welfare Board Kasturika Patnaik, well known photographer Prafulla Chandra Dhir and AMF News Chairman Prasanta Patnaik. Well known lady painter Sai Kalyani also went round the exhibits and highly appreciated the excellent camera work of Swati Mohapatra. Her husband young entrepreneur Gouri Sankar Mishra virtually organized the unique photography show.
Swati Mohapatra an entrepreneur by profession and promoter Biotech industry has taken up photography as a passion, Her clicks have been widely acclaimed at the state and National level exhibitions.
A passionate nature lover and vivid landscape photographer, she has captured nature with a great sense of aesthetic and beauty. This exhibition displayed her iconic clicks depicting the serenity of the Himalayas, Meghalaya and other place as well. She nicely captured the vibrant wilderness of sanctuaries across the country such as Bharatpur, Kuldiha, Simlipal , Chilka etc.
