New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices have recorded steepest rise on Friday since the Budget as the state-run oil marketing companies hiked the rates on Friday.

The petrol and diesel prices were up by 34-37 paise and 28-30 paise a litre, respectively, the sharpest rise since the Union Budget on July 5.

In Delhi, after today’s rate revision, petrol prices rose to Rs 73.06 a litre as against Rs 72.71 a litre on Thursday. The diesel price peaked to Rs 66.29 per litre as compared to Rs 66.01 on Thursday.

In Mumbai one has to shell out Rs 78.73 for a litre of petrol after a 34 paise raise over Thursday’s rate. A litre of diesel costs Rs 69.54 per litre, 30 paise higher than yesterday’s rate of Rs 69.24 a litre.

Likewise in Chennai, the retail price of petrol price was raised by 37 paise to Rs 75.93 a litre, from Rs 75.56 recorded on Thursday. Diesel costs Rs 70.07 a litre, 30 paise more than Thursday rate of Rs 69.77 a litre.

In Kolkata, petrol is retailing at Rs 75.77 a litre, 34 paise increase from Thursday’s rate of Rs 75.43 while diesel price rose to Rs 68.70 a litre, 28 paise more than Thursday’s price of Rs 68.42 per litre
