A significant development in the case involving the death of software engineer Sweta Utkal Kumari is the claim made by her family that she committed herself after being the target of blackmail by her male companion Soumyajeet Mohapatra.
Chandrasekharpur police have opened an inquiry and registered a case in this regard under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC based on their allegation.
Soumyajeet, a Sambalpur native who works for a private enterprise in the city, would reportedly be questioned by police soon, according to sources.
Yesterday, Sweta was discovered hanging inside her flat in this city’s Sailashree Vihar neighbourhood. Her relationship with Soumyajeet was purportedly mentioned in a diary that police reportedly found from the home.
The software engineer was employed by Infosys as a Technology Analyst and was a native of Bhadrak.
She may have taken the severe step of hanging herself to end her life, although the cause of her death has not yet been determined.
