Bhubaneswar,04,January 2019: Sanjeeb Sahoo, a scientist from Odisha has been placed in the world’s most influential researchers list released by the firm Clarivate Analytics.

He is the only Odia among 10 Indians figured in the globe’s highly-cited researchers list that comprises over 4000 scientists.

Sanjeeb Sahoo, a researcher in Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar, is known for the specialization for use of nanotechnology in cancer drug delivery, especially in cancer cure.

The country may boast of the scientists from the institutions like IISc, the IITs, TIFR, JNU and Tiss. However, only 10 Indians found a place in the world’s 4,000 top scientists list.

Interestingly, some of them are not from the country’s leading and prestigious institutions.

The United States is the top ranking country with the highest number of 2,639 Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) followed by the United Kingdom that boasts of 546 scientists and China (mainland) with 482.

Total 4,058 researchers were figured as the Highly Cited in the 21 Essential Science Indicator (ESI) fields. Out of them, 194 researchers appear in two ESI fields, 24 researchers from North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East have topped in three fields.

However, India’s representation is negligible in the HCR list.

As per the list by the Clarivate Analytics in its fifth edition, eminent scientist and former head of the scientific advisory council to the prime minister, CNR Rao has been placed in the list.

Besides, Ashok Mittal, a researcher from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal and his wife Jyoti Mittal from the same institute; Avinash Kumar, a professor from IIT-Kanpur; Ashok Pandey from CSIR’s Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, JNU’s Dinesh Mohan, Rajeev Varshney from International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, Hyderabad; Sakthivel Rathinaswamy from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore; Rajnish Kumar from IIT-Madras are named in the HCR list.

Notably, Jyoti Mittal is the only woman researcher from India in the list.
