New Delhi,December 10: The Union minister and RLSP chief Upendra Kushwaha has resigned as Union minister of state for HRD on Monday, news agencies said.

The development came in the wake of the continuing stalemate between his Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the seat-sharing formula in Bihar for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The decision comes a day ahead of the Winter Session.

Media reports said that the RLSP chief will not  attend a meeting of NDA allies being chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here Monday.

It may be recalled that Kushwaha had last month set a deadline of November 30 for the BJP to make its stand on seat sharing.

The RLSP which is an ally of the BJP in the NDA  had won three seats in the 2014 general election. Reports said Kushwaha was upset with the BJP after it asserted that the RLSP would not be given more than two seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
