Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan’s Vision to Digitally Safeguard Odisha’s Spiritual Legacy
In a historic step towards blending tradition with technology, the Odisha Government has announced the establishment of a Digital Library in Puri, dedicated to preserving the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the Shree Jagannath Temple.
The initiative, conceptualised under the leadership of Law Minister Shri Prithiviraj Harichandan, marks a transformative move to digitally archive centuries of sacred knowledge and make them accessible to devotees, scholars, and researchers worldwide.
Christened as ‘Gyana Yagnya Mandap’, the upcoming library will be developed at the site of the old Raghunandan Library in the holy town of Puri. It will feature a state-of-the-art digital repository, a research centre, and interactive access portals designed to preserve, document, and disseminate the temple’s timeless legacy.
“Our goal is to create a living digital archive of the Jagannath Temple’s glorious past — a knowledge hub where tradition meets technology,” said Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding the spiritual soul of Odisha through modern innovation.
The digital library will house an extensive collection of rare temple records, sacred rituals, the historic Madala Panji, palm-leaf manuscripts, and ancient administrative documents chronicling the temple’s journey over centuries.
Officials said the library will serve as a centre for research, learning, and cultural preservation, opening new avenues for academic study and devotional engagement. By digitising and cataloguing historical archives, the initiative ensures that future generations can connect with Odisha’s spiritual heritage, even from afar.
“This project reflects the government’s vision to make the Jagannath Temple’s vast knowledge ecosystem available globally while preserving its sanctity and authenticity,” a senior official from the Law Department added.
With Prithiviraj Harichandan’s leadership, Odisha is witnessing a renaissance in heritage governance — one that merges faith, knowledge, and digital transformation. From temple reforms to cultural conservation, his efforts continue to reshape how tradition is preserved in the modern age.
The Gyana Yagnya Mandap is poised to become a spiritual lighthouse, bridging the ancient wisdom of Lord Jagannath’s temple with the digital future — a fitting testament to Odisha’s identity as the land of knowledge, devotion, and innovation.
