New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind has given his assent to a bill providing 10 per cent reservation to the economically weaker sections of the upper castes.
“The President of India has given assent to the Constitution (One Hundred and Third) Amendment Act, 2019 today,” a statement of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment read.
“This Act may be called the Constitution (One Hundred and Third Amendment) Act, 2019. It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint,” the statement added.
With the President’s nod, the bill has now become a law that will provide 10 per cent reservation in education and government jobs.
On Wednesday, Parliament cleared the 10% reservation bill for economically weaker sections in the general category, following an approval by the Rajya Sabha.
