Bhubaneswar, October 8: Eminent writer Pratibha Ray was appointed Chairperson of the Bharatiya Jnanpith Selection Board.
Ray, who won the prestigious Jnanpith Award in 2011, is the first Odia woman and fourth Odia writer to get the Jnanpith Award.
She is known for her literary works ‘Barsa Basanta Baishakha’ in 1974, ‘Aranya’ in 1977, ‘Nishidha Prithivi’ in 1978, ‘Parichya’ in 1979, ‘Aparichita’ in 1979, Punyatoya in 1979, Meghamedura in 1980, Ashabari in 1980, Ayamarambha in 1981, Nilatrishna in 1981, Samudrara Swara in 1982.
She won the Orissa Sahitya Akademi Award, 1985 for her novel ‘Shilapadma’ whereas ‘Yajnaseni’ got her the Moorti Devi Award in 1991 and Sarala Award in 1990.
