According to police sources, the first inquiry determined that it was a case of suicide. They added that Mishra had sent more than Rs 25 lakh to various individuals from Rajasthan and West Bengal via UPI payment channels over the previous two months.

While Dibyaranjan Mishra’s death, a bank agriculture officer whose body was found in the Anga River at Julunda in Subarnapur district, remains mysterious, police said they will begin their investigation while taking the cyber fraud angle into account after several transactions totaling lakhs of rupees from the banker’s account came to light.

According to police sources, the first inquiry determined that it was a case of suicide. They added that Mishra had sent more than Rs 25 lakh to various individuals from Rajasthan and West Bengal via UPI payment channels over the previous two months.

Though the precise cause of his death is yet unknown, it is speculated that Mishra may have fallen victim to cyber fraudsters and committed the extreme measure after losing more than Rs 25 lakh as a result of hackers’ extortion.

Police have found MIshra’s phone, and they hope to use it to glean information about what led to his demise.

“We have found Mishra’s deactivated mobile phone, and I’m hoping this will help us figure out how he passed away. If necessary, we will transfer the phone to the forensics department for additional analysis so that we can retrieve the data, according to Subarnapur SP Asim Panda.

In the meantime, Mishra’s family has accused someone of killing them, believing that their son was coerced into taking his own life. Additionally, they have called for a CBI investigation into the situation.

“I believe my son’s death was the result of a racket. We still find it hard to accept that he killed himself. The strange death of my kid should be investigated by the CBI, said Kesab Mishra, Dibyaranjan’s father.

“My kid was murdered by beating, and then the body was thrown. According to Srikar Mishra, a relative of the deceased, a thorough inquiry into the matter is necessary, and severe action should be taken against those implicated.

Notably, Dibyaranjan vanished on Wednesday under unexplained circumstances, and his body was found on Saturday in the Anga River at Julunda in the Subarnapur district.

He was employed by the Punjab National Bank’s Barpali branch as an agriculture officer.
