According to a statement issued by the External Affairs Ministry on Wednesday, the Seoul Peace Prize Award Committee has also recognised PM Modi’s contributions to the growth of Indian and global economies, credited ‘Modinomics’ for reducing the social and economic disparity between rich and poor.
Modi, is the 14th person to receive the prestigious award. The Indian PM has accepted the ‘prestigious honour’ while expressing his gratitude. He specifically noted India’s deepening partnership with the Republic of Korea (South Korea).
The presentation of the honour would take place at a mutually convenient time.
Notably, the Seoul Peace Prize was established in 1990 and is awarded biennially to individuals who have made their mark in contributions to the harmony of mankind, reconciliation between nations and to world peace.
In the past, the award has been conferred to personalities like former UN chief Kofi Annan, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and global relief organisations like Doctors Without Borders and Oxfam
