Jharsuguda: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly constructed Jharsuguda airport on September 22, informed Union Tribal Affairs minister Jual Oram here on Friday.
“The Prime Minister will arrive at the Jharsuguda airport in a special aircraft from New Delhi on September 22 and dedicate the airport to the people of Odisha and the nation,” said Oram, who visited the airport and took stock of the construction work of ATS tower, runway etc. early on the morning.
“ The Prime Minister, in his one-day visit to the state, will also dedicate a new railway line of the Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) between Jharsuguda and Sardega in Sundargarh district,” Oram added saying the Prime Minister will also dedicate two new coal mines in the same district and lay the foundation stone of the renovation of the Talcher Fertilizer plant.
On August 1, the airport was granted a 4C- category licence by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), allowing it to operate larger planes such as Airbus 320 and Boeing 747.
The airport has been built on an area of 909.22 acres at an approximate cost of Rs 210 crore.
