Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi graced the Odisha Parba 2024, an extraordinary showcase of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. Organized by the Odia Samaj from November 22-24, the event celebrated the state’s vibrant culture, historical significance, and promising future. The Prime Minister’s presence and passionate address reaffirmed his deep connection to Odisha and its pivotal role in India’s development. 

 

Cultural Legacy Celebrated 

PM Modi paid homage to Odisha’s timeless literary and spiritual icons: 

  • Swabhav Kavi Gangadhar Meher, on the centenary of his death anniversary. 
  • Bhakta Dasia Bhauri, Bhakta Salabega, and Shri Jagannath Das, whose contributions to devotional literature like the Odiya Bhagavat continue to inspire generations. 
  • Praised Lord Jagannath, a symbol of divine leadership and inclusivity, as a unifying force for India’s spiritual and cultural ethos. 
  • Remembered Bhim Bhoi, the visionary poet, highlighting his philosophy of self-sacrifice for humanity. 

The Prime Minister also lauded Odisha’s maritime history through the celebration of Bali Jatra, symbolizing India’s ancient trade connections with Southeast Asia. 

 

Recognizing Odisha’s Freedom Struggle 

PM Modi recalled Odisha’s contributions to India’s independence: 

  • Paika Rebellion: Hailed as India’s first war of independence, commemorated with a special postage stamp and coin. 
  • Utkal Kesari Hare Krishna Mehtab: Honored his legacy on the 125th birth anniversary of the freedom fighter and visionary leader. 
  • Acknowledged President Droupadi Murmu, Odisha’s daughter, as a beacon of tribal representation and leadership on the national stage. 

 

Odisha’s Economic and Developmental Renaissance 

The Prime Minister highlighted the strides made by Odisha in various sectors: 

  • Industrial Growth: Odisha’s leadership in steel, aluminum, and energy production positions it as India’s mining and metals powerhouse. 
  • Port Development: Upcoming projects at Dhamra, Gopalpur, Astaranga, and Subarnarekha aim to transform Odisha into a hub of maritime trade. 
  • Agriculture and Seafood: Efforts to expand markets for Odisha’s famed cashew, turmeric, jute, and seafood products globally. 
  • Investment Drive: Under the Utkarsh Utkal initiative, the state attracted ₹45,000 crore in investments within 100 days, bolstering infrastructure and employment opportunities. 

 

Tourism and Cultural Promotion 

  • Announced plans to promote Odissi Day and preserve traditional art forms like Pattachitra and Sambalpuri weaving. 
  • Enhanced focus on iconic heritage sites such as the Konark Sun Temple and Puri Dham, making Odisha a prime destination for cultural tourism. 

 

Odisha as a Hub of Education and Urbanization 

The Prime Minister emphasized Odisha’s growing prominence in higher education and urban development: 

  • Home to prestigious institutions fostering national and global talent. 
  • Ongoing infrastructure projects in Tier-2 cities, with special attention to Western Odisha, to boost urban growth and connectivity. 

 

Odisha’s Budgetary Empowerment 

The Prime Minister highlighted the unprecedented focus on Odisha’s development: 

  • The state now receives three times more funding compared to a decade ago. 
  • A 30% budgetary increase from last year supports comprehensive initiatives in health, education, and connectivity. 

 

Vision 2036: A Roadmap for Odisha 

PM Modi outlined a vision for Odisha’s centenary in 2036, with the goal of transforming the state into a leading economic and cultural powerhouse. 

“Odisha’s legacy is intertwined with India’s history, and its future is vital to our national growth. Together, we shall ensure Odisha shines brightly as a beacon of progress and prosperity,” PM Modi stated.
