MUMBAI:The trailer of Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday’s Pati Patni Aur Woh dropped online on Monday. And right after its release, the trailer and the film are the talk of the town for all the wrong reasons. The film, which was said is not a sexist film by Bhumi in an interview with news agency IANS, is now being criticised for joking about marital rape in a monologue by the Pyaar Ka Punchnama actor. Twitter has blasted the makers and the film for the controversial dialogue with many users saying that this kind of humour is beyond tolerance. Now, we hear that after the much backlash, the makers will edit out the said monologue and the controversial dialogue will not make it to the final cut of Pati Patni Aur Woh.

According to a report by an entertainment website, a source close to the production said that the makers “got carried away” while assigning the monologue to Kartik Aaryan and will now make amendment to the said dialogue.

The source told the website, “Since Kartik Aaryan’s monologue in Pyaar Ka Punchnama was a hit, they thought of doing another one this time and got carried away. The offensive monologue will be edited out of the film.”

In the trailer, Kartik Aaryan is seen ranting about being sex-starved to his friend, played by Aparshakti Khurrana, in a scene. He says, “Biwi se sex maang lein, toh hum bhikaari. Biwi ko sex mana kar dein, toh hum atyachaari aur kisi tarah jugaad laga ke uss se sex haasil kar lein na toh balaatkaari bhi hum hain.” Which translates to “If we ask our wife for sex we are termed as beggars. If we deny her sex, we are tyrants. And if we somehow manage to get sex from our wives then we become rapists.”

The humour didn’t go down well with Twitter users with many calling out the makers to stooping low enough to joke about marital rape. One user wrote, “Did the monologue in the trailer of #PatiPatniAurWoh seriously just defend marital rape????”

While yet another user wrote, “#PatiPatniAurWoh #PatiPatniAurWohtrailer…so the whole team of this movie think rape is a joke…”balatkaar” is not a joke and no wife would tag her husband as “balatkaari” just for fun…stop justifying stupidity just bcoz ur need a rhyming scheme in ur dialogues..!!!”

In an interview with IANS, Bhumi Pednekar, who plays Kartik’s wife in Pati Patni Aur Woh, said that it is a film on gender empowerment. She said, “When I read the script, all the doubts that I had simply vanished. This is not frivolous… The story is very empowering to both genders. I think that the makers made sure that this does not turn into a sexist, baseless film. I do not think anyone who is part of this film, including us actors, belong to that school. We were extremely conscious of the fact that we do not end up making it into a sexist comment… This is a subject that could have gone wrong easily. But they (the makers) have been sensitive and careful. I have to say it is a big achievement.”

Directed by Mudassar Aziz, Pati Patni Aur Woh is a remake of 1978 film of the same name starring Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha and Ranjeeta Kaur. The 2019 film is shot in different parts of the country with major portions filmed in Lucknow. It is slated to hit screens on December 6.
