On Sunday, an explosion at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Odisha’s Rourkela district killed one worker and injured another. The injured individual was taken to Ispat General Hospital for treatment.
The explosion occurred while the plant was undergoing maintenance. At 11.30 a.m., an explosion was reported in a gas pipeline in Captive Power Plant I.
Amar Kumar Panda of Subaspali, Rourkela, has been identified as the deceased. Sushil Kumar Deogram, another person involved in the accident, was critically injured.
The two worked as contract workers at the steel plant.
The RSP authorities have assembled a team to investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, the locals and the contractual workers’ association have demanded adequate compensation for the deceased worker’s family.
