Sureswar Mishra, president of the bar association, stated that even though the State government had promised to present a detailed plan on the establishment of an HC bench in western Odisha by June 30, it had not yet done so.
The district bar association of Sambalpur resolved on Tuesday to take to the streets on July 8 to renew the call for the establishment of a High Court bench in western Odisha.
It was also decided during a meeting called by the bar association to hold a rally and deliver a letter regarding the demand to the governor of Odisha through the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), North.
Although the State government promised to present a detailed proposal on the establishment of an HC bench in western Odisha by June 30, according to Sureswar Mishra, president of the bar association, no action has been made to yet. We will organise a demonstration on July 8 in accordance with the decision of the central action committee of All Western Odisha Bar Associations, he declared.
The establishment of an HC bench has long been a demand of the local populace. For the purpose of stepping up the protest, the bar association had asked for the public’s and representatives of various social organisations’ involvement.
“They have consented to offer assistance to the cause. We sincerely hope that the State government takes into account our request and acts accordingly as soon as possible. In the upcoming days, protests will get more intense if our demand is not met “Mishra forewarned.
Pradeep Bohidar, the president of the bar association’s action committee, announced that a protest will be held on July 8 in front of the RDC office in Sambalpur.
Bar organisations from other western Odisha districts would protest the demand on the same day in front of their respective Collector’s offices. A demonstration will take place in front of the Sub-Collectors’ offices at the subdivisional level.
